Gracie’s Place Cattery

As you step through the doors, you’ll be greeted by our adorable cattery residents: Little Bear, Pooh, Tigger, Bella, Miles, Tao, Heidi, Katrina, Bailey, Topaz, Mouse and Opossum.

Little Bear was brought to us at five weeks old by a rescuer who found him alone on a road. He is a charming and happy fellow who is the first to greet visitors.

Pooh & Tigger are brothers who came to us as kittens from the Clarke County Animal Shelter. Tigger is the bolder of the two and often initiates play with the other cats. Pooh is content snuggling and being close to his people.

Bella & Katrina were put outside in the cold by a landlord after their owners passed away. A kind neighbor made a place for them until he could find a home. Although shy at first, both warm up quickly and enjoy our cattery visitors.

Miles was transferred to us by the Clarke County Animal Shelter along with his brother Fritz. Sadly, Fritz passed away in May of 2024. The brothers had a difficult life prior to joining the cattery. They started in a feral colony, were adopted from the shelter, and then returned a few years later. Because of his past, Miles is wary and prefers to keep his distance, but he is becoming more trusting with time.

Tao is a beautiful Siamese boy who arrived at a neighbor’s house as a stray. He was extremely fearful when he arrived, so we gave him plenty of space and hiding areas. Although he does not want anyone to touch him yet, he does come out and observe the other cats enjoying human companionship. We are optimistic that one day he will feel comfortable enough to join the others for cuddles and petting.

Heidi and Topaz are sisters who were part of a feral Trap, Neuter & Release (TNR) program. But they could not be released in their original location because a person in the area shoots outdoor cats. They are quickly learning they are now in a safe place and that people can be trusted.

Bailey was mourning the loss of her owner when she arrived. She was withdrawn and would not interact with people or the cats. She seemed overwhelmed by the other cats and the activity in the cattery, so we decided to give her private quarters in the gift shop. Within days she blossomed! She is now a happy girl who loves to be pet, purrs, and rubs on our legs.

Mouse & Opossum were brought to us by a good Samaritan who found them while working in his yard. He initially thought he uncovered a nest of bunnies but soon realized it was a litter of three newborn kittens. The mother returned and moved only one of the kittens and the other two were in need of rescue. They bring lots of kitten charm and funny antics to the cattery that is a joy to watch.

The cattery is in memory of Gracie who went to the rainbow bridge in 2023.

Our cats have found their forever home at Serenity Farm Virginia and are not available for adoption. If you are looking for a cat to join your family, please visit your local animal shelter. Most shelters are overwhelmed with cats and kittens, and you could be saving a life.
