Serenity Farm Virginia is a 501(c)(3) public charity funded by donations and staffed entirely by unpaid volunteers. Our mission is to provide a safe haven for animals where they can live peacefully in a natural, chemical free environment; to be a place of peace and solace for visitors; and to provide green living education to promote the health of our planet. At Serenity Farm you have an opportunity to learn how all living things are interconnected.

We believe animals will choose the nutrients they need when given the opportunity so free-choice minerals, unprocessed salt and organic kelp are always available to our farm animals. We do not administer medication or chemicals prophylactically.  Instead, animals are regularly monitored with detailed health assessments that include photographs, a five-point body condition check, and FAMACHA scoring.  We take our responsibility for the care of these animals very seriously.

A portion of the farm is a dedicated wildlife habitat where native trees and shrubs that support pollinators and birds have been planted. Gardens are planted using permaculture methods that mimic nature, benefit pollinators and are a healthy food source for our resident animals.

Our passion for a natural and healthy ecosystem includes a mission to educate people of all ages. Young visitors learn about farm animals, wild animals, plants, and insects in the Children’s Nature Area.  During a visit, children enjoy hands-on opportunities to discover nests, nuts, leaves, snake skins and other naturally occurring elements of the wildlife habitat.  Activity centers and play areas are focused on treating animals and nature with respect while having fun and being curious.

We do not take lightly our responsibility for the land and animals in our care.  Animals are treated with loving respect and live in an environment that encourages their natural behaviors. Permaculture methods are incorporated into our gardens and wildlife habitat to create a beneficial synergy. We are committed to having only a positive effect on this beautiful piece of the Shenandoah Valley and all of its inhabitants.

The farm is open by appointment March through December.
