Serenity Farm Virginia is a 501(c)(3) public charity funded by donations and staffed entirely by unpaid volunteers. Our mission is to:
- Provide empathetic care for animals including hospice care at the end of their lives.
- Provide a place of peace and healing for visitors with an emphasis on respect for animals and our world.
- Provide education with an emphasis on stewardship and coexistence with nature.
- Promote a sense of wonder and belonging to nature.
We do not take lightly our responsibility for the animals in our care and the stewardship of the land. Animals are treated with loving respect and live in an environment that encourages their natural behaviors. Permaculture methods are incorporated into our gardens and wildlife habitat to create a beneficial synergy. We are committed to having only a positive effect on this beautiful piece of the Shenandoah Valley and all of its inhabitants.
Our passion for a natural and healthy ecosystem includes a mission to educate people of all ages. Young visitors learn about farm animals, wild animals, plants, and insects in the Children’s Nature Area. During a visit, children enjoy hands-on opportunities to discover nests, nuts, leaves, snake skins and other naturally occurring elements of the wildlife habitat. Activity centers and play areas are focused on treating animals and nature with respect while having fun and being curious.
The farm is open by appointment March through December. Appointments can be scheduled on our Visit the Farm page. Note: The farm is temporarily closed to visitors during our new barn construction.
“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” –Anatole France
