Volunteer

At Serenity Farm Virginia, caring for animals is a practice of presence, consistency, and respect. Our sanctuary exists to offer animals a safe, steady life rooted in routine and compassion, and our volunteers are an essential part of that care.

A Working Sanctuary

This is a hands-on, working animal sanctuary. Volunteer tasks often include cleaning barns and animal living spaces, feeding and watering animals, carrying buckets, raking, sweeping, and assisting with ongoing projects. Much of the work is physical and repetitive, and all of it matters deeply to the animals who call the farm home.

Rhythm & Commitment

Sanctuary life runs on rhythm. Animals thrive when their days are predictable and calm, and we ask volunteers to support that rhythm by committing to a consistent weekly shift and arriving on time, ready to work. Reliability allows us to provide the steady care our animals depend on.

Presence

Volunteers are asked to arrive fully present and attentive. A calm, grounded presence helps keep the sanctuary a peaceful place for all.

Learning the SFV Sanctuary Way

Sanctuary work is about listening—to the animals, to the land, and to the systems already in place. Volunteers are guided through established routines designed around animal welfare and safety. Your input, ideas, and curiosity are always welcome, and we encourage thoughtful suggestions, while following established procedures and routines to ensure the safety and well-being of the animals. Consistency, presence, and respect for sanctuary systems are key to a successful volunteer experience.

Volunteer Hours & Documentation

Serenity Farm Virginia is not able to guarantee letters of recommendation or volunteer hour verification. Documentation may be considered after a minimum of three months of consistent volunteering and is based on reliability, quality of work, and alignment with sanctuary values. We are unable to accommodate requests tied to academic or professional deadlines.

A Good Fit

Volunteers who feel most at home here are those who value:
