Step Into My Imaginary World
In my world, children grow up learning compassion through connection. They join a community rooted in kindness, where farm animals are not lessons in detachment, but teachers of empathy. These children form real, lasting friendships with cows, pigs, goats, sheep, and chickens—friends they care for not as chores or steppingstones, but as equals.
They learn that animals feel pain, joy, loneliness, and love. They learn to listen to nonverbal language, to respond with gentleness, and to honor the unspoken trust that forms between beings who choose one another.

A Gathering Unlike Any Other
Once a year, this community comes together—not for competition, but for celebration. Children and animals arrive side by side, proud of the lives they share. The space is peaceful, carefully chosen with the animals’ comfort in mind. Their needs come first—soft bedding, shaded rest areas, quiet surroundings.
Guests are welcomed not with fanfare, but with warmth. They’re invited to observe, to listen, and to feel. And they do.
What they see is not what they expect: a goat leaning into a child’s arms; a pig softly grunting in recognition; a steer calmly following his companion like a trusted dog. The bond between child and animal is unmistakable—authentic, gentle, and full of respect.
Hearts and Minds Begin to Shift
Visitors leave changed. Some can’t stop thinking about the sheep who rested her head in a boy’s lap, or the rooster who followed a girl like her shadow. “I didn’t know farm animals could show that much affection,” one whispers. “I’ll never look at them the same way again,” says another.
Without saying a word, these children and animals have opened a door. A door to a world where kindness replaces control, and connection replaces commerce. And no child leaves crying because their friend is auctioned off to become someone’s dinner.
Where Compassion Becomes Reality
We dream of a world where compassion leads—and every day, we work to make it real. At Serenity Farm Virginia, we rescue animals from harm and offer them safety, love, and belonging. We nurture deep, healing relationships between people and animals, showing that connection—not control—is what truly matters. And we gently invite others to rethink what it means to share this planet, not as owners, but as equals in the web of life.
You can be part of building a world where animals are seen, loved and protected. Your support allows Serenity Farm Virginia to continue rescuing animals, offering them sanctuary, and educating the public about their rich emotional lives. Together, we can create a world where compassion is the lesson, and kindness is the legacy. Serenity Farm Virginia is funded by donations and 100% volunteer staffed.
Wishing you serenity and peace,
Jo Bighouse, Founder
